Kamiljit Jhooti Singh (or better known by his stage name: Jay Sean) is a British-Asian singer-songwriter, rapper, beatboxer and a record producer. Jay was discovered by Rishi Rich in 2003 and became part of the Rishi Rich project. Debuting with his first single called 'Dance with you', (reaching #12 on UK's top 40 chart show) he was then signed with Virgin Records in 2004 as a solo artist and released two singles that entered UK's top 10. (Stolen -- #4 and Eyes on you --- #6) Both songs were included in Jay's debut album: Me Against Myself.
Two years later, he left Virgin Records in 2006 and founded his own independent record label, Jayded records. Years later in 2008, he released 'Ride it' which reached #11 in UK. It was followed by 'Maybe' which reached #7 is Japan's Hot 100 and 'Tonight'. All three songs were featured on Jay's second album, 'My own way'. Expectedly, this album was Jay's most successful album, reaching #6 and topped UK's R'n'B chart.
From the end of 2008, Jay announced on the 15 October 2008 at MOBO awards that he had been signed to Cash Money Records becoming the first British-Asian singer to sign to an American label. In 2009, his American debut single 'Down' was successful enough to reach the Billboard top 100. Soon after, 'Do you remember' was released which had sold more than a million copies. Both amazing singles were released on his third album, 'All or nothing' which peak height was #37 on the US Billboard 200 and reached #11 on Japan's Oricon Albums chart. Occasionally, Sean is referred to a 'one-man boy band' and for this reason was ranked #37 in Billboard's Hot 100 artists of 2009.

Career
Jay was a student in Barts and The London School Of Medicine and Dentistry at Queen Mary, University of London before dropping out in 2003 to pursue his singing career. Jay has also guest starred in 'Kyaa Kool Hai Hum' as himself. At the age of 11, he and his cousin formed together to make a hip hop duo named 'Compulsive Disorder'. At that time his stage name was Nicky J (The J from his last name. 'Jhooti') which eventually led to his friends nicknaming him Jay. 'Sean' is from 'Shaan' which his grandmother called him meaning 'shining star'.
